Who are We?

Ayiti Journey

My journey with programming began as a lifeline, pulling me out of poverty and opening doors to endless opportunities. It gifted me with my best memories enabled me to become the person I am today. Now, I'm driven to pay it forward, empowering children from marginalized communities to break free from the cycle of poverty. Vision

I envision an Africa where problem-solving is driven by the creativity, innovation, and resilience of children and youth. By empowering the younger generation with the skills, knowledge, and resources they need, we aim to nurture a culture of innovation that addresses local and global challenges. In this vision, children and youth are at the forefront of technological advancement, social transformation, and sustainable development, utilizing their potential to build solutions that positively impact their communities and beyond. I believe that by investing in the next generation, we can create a future where Africa is a hub of innovation, powered by young minds who are equipped to lead and inspire change.

Mission

My dream is that one day Nigeria is no longer known for cyber-criminality but it becomes famous as a hub for building top notch software for social change. For 52 weeks, we will train 20 children from extreme poverty the knowledge of ethical computer programming to make a difference. These children will be exposed to realities that are alternative to what they know and they will be assigned to a role model they can learn from. The curriculum that is used to train these children will address their individual needs and it will be tailored to make them independent leaders, resilient to societal pressure, stand for the truth, initiators, questioning the status quo, hungry for change and good collaborators.

Meet the Visioneer

Akinyele Olubodun

Founder, AYITI Initiative

Programming pulled me out of poverty. It got me my best memories and opportunities to be who I want to be. I want to bring out other children from extreme poverty, teach and mentor them on how to be ethical computer programmers for social change. Together we will change the narratives of Nigeria and Africa through computer programming and technology. I believe my journey to freedom can be replicated for other children living in marginalized community by lowering the barrier to attaining programming knowledge.
