October 2021, Newsletter: 2021/2022 AYITI class has started (AYITI 3.0)

Our 2021/2022 AYITI class has started (AYITI 3.0), and I am in high spirit already because this session is going to be a unique one.
I had observed from past sessions that we start off with 20 children but ONLY 5 make it to the end of the course. This then begs the question; "Must all the children be A CODER"? I think not. But all children should be able to understand coding to sharpen their problem-solving skills.

AYITI 3.0 comes with a tailored curriculum to make them independent leaders, resilient to societal pressure, stand for the truth, initiators, questions the status quo, hungry for change and good collaborators. With hopes to instil in the children programming skills nudging them towards ethical awareness for social change, without taking away fun and curiosity.

Transcending AYITI’s previous norms, this behavioural approach should help address their individual needs. The children will be assessed to recognise the Visualizer & Artist, the Logical/Analytic thinkers, Inventors & Initiators and lastly, Activist & Entrepreneurs.
The class’s journey will be in five steps and we have taken first. We are learning through critical thinking activities, adapting designed games, discussions on societal issues, drawing, painting, craft and drama. It is all experiential. It is fun.

In our last class, we played a game designed to teach ‘teamwork and collaboration’. We outlined the different qualities of a good team and it was interesting how the groups performed. They were self-motivated; there was brilliance and there was energy. In a sense, I always look forward to sequel class.

I am grateful to all Donors who made this happen. You don’t know what you have done until we have completed our 52 weeks. From all of us, we say thank you.

VIDEOS
Shooting of CODE GENERALS – a video series for learning computer programming for ethical change. We have already completed shoting of all the episodes we are working on subtitling the episodes and sending it off to the editor for editing.

Raising Funds
We are not able to raise enough funds for this cohort but we hope as we go further with our classes we will be able to raise enough funds to get them laptops and other things they will need.
